On the occasion of celebrating the 40th anniversary of foundation and duration of Grisia, the biggest and most wonderful one-day exhibition in the open, which occurs for last forty years on every second Sunday in August in the Rovinj’s street Grisia, the retrospective exhibition “Grisia 1967-2007” was organised.
The main goal of the exhibition was to point out the significance of the manifestation and years of its continual and successful existence through exhibits from the Country Museum Collection. The audience got the chance to see works from 70s, 80s and 90s of the last century, but, even, the works created during the years in this century.
Along with exhibited paintings, sculptures and installations, the exhibition was accompanied with video-materials: photographs of Grisia, its artists and visitors. The accompanying catalogue designed by Dario Sošić, curator of the Museum, is especially attractive.
On its front page there is a painting called “Awakening in the Grisia Street”, the work of painter Bruno Mascarelli from 1953. Apart of photographs of works from the Museum Collection, the catalogue brings the list of all exhibitors from 1967, when in the first Grisia forty-nine artists had participated. In its introductory part, Sošić tells some anecdotes regarding the start of this manifestation. Among other things, he writes that Ljubo Škrnjug said that the Grisia was a response to 1966 when a ship carrying 120 rich Americans entered the Rovinj’s city port; on that occasion, they bought even twelve pictures. This was the reason for Grisia’s birth, that is, the next year first selling exhibition for fine arts in the open.
