The old and the young, the artists and the amateurs, the fine art lovers and the ordinary folk all came to see the retrospective exhibition by academic painter Bruno Mascarelli, the bard of the Rovinj and world painting. The Native Museum in which the Master's works dating from 1947 to 2000 are presented was too small to receive all lovers and worshippers of artworks by the pioneer or the Rovinj painting, a man who came to the city of Saint Euphemia in the middle of the last century, one of the founders of the Art Colony and Grisija, a live legend and a myth, as well as an artistic icon of the artistic and picturesque Rovinj.
The occasion was also used to promote the painter’s monograph written by Margarita Sveštarov Šimat and inspiringly presented by Daina Glavičić, the curator of the Modern Gallery from Rijeka. Especially emotional was the speech by Argeo Curta, former Director of the Museum and one of the initiators of Mascarelli's monograph, who said that Bruno represented the beginning of the Rovinj painting.
On behalf of the citizens of Rovinj, Chairman of the City Council Davorin Flego congratulated this great artist on his 80th birthday that ‘fell’ exactly on the opening day of the retrospective exhibition. He reminded the visitors that on September 16, the Day of the City and St. Euphemia, Bruno Mascarelli will be awarded the prestigious City of Rovinj Award.
