EXCEPTIONAL RECOGNITION AWARDED TO THE TOWN OF ST. EUPHEMIA

FIJET's Golden Apple Goes to Rovinj

In a wide palette of tourism awards presented in the past several decades to one of the most beautiful towns in the Mediterranean – Rovinj, FIJET's Golden Apple, an award with a special glow, is the most recent jewel on the crown of recognition. FIJET's Golden Apple is an award presented by the World Federation of Travel Journalists and Writers to the most beautiful and most attractive tourist destinations, as well as institutions and individuals.

In the category of tourist destinations, FIJET's journalists and travel writers made an exception this year by honoring two tourist destinations from the same country with the prestigious Golden Apple award, namely Rovinj and Opatija. This exceptional recognition was deservedly awarded since both tourist destinations base their tourism development on heritage and tradition in combination with the highest world tourism standards.

- This year, the Golden Apple award was for the first time awarded to two towns from the same country. FIJET Croatia nominated us as a town with a history of tourism, a high-quality tourism offer and a destination close to emissive tourist markets. After the nomination was accepted, we received a visit from the FIJET delegation and introduced the delegates with Rovinj’s natural, historic and cultural wealth and our high-quality hotels and camps, which was crucial for winning this valuable award, said Mrs. Odete Sapač, Director of the Rovinj Tourist Board, when asked to comment on the town’s receipt of the Golden Apple award.

Mr. Giovanni Sponza, Mayor of Rovinj, did not hide his satisfaction concerning the received award either, stressing repeatedly that it is an acknowledgment of the efforts of all the citizens of the town of Rovinj.

- The Golden Apple award is significant to us because it is awarded by travel journalists and writers, experts traveling the world reviewing tourist destinations. To receive this award, the so-called Tourism Oscar, an exceptional acknowledgment, particularly if it is awarded for preservation of the cultural and historic heritage and tradition within the context of the contemporary tourism trends, confirms that our development policy is the right one, said Mayor Sponza.

This award, considered in the tourism industry an equivalent to the Oscar award, arrived to Rovinj in an attractive, movie-like manner - in the traditional Rovinj boat called batana. Fisherman Romigio Bogešić handed the Golden Apple over to Mr. Tijani Haddad, President of FIJET, who presented it to the first man of Rovinj, Mr. Giovanni Sponza, accompanied by great ovations.

The Golden Apple award, the Tourism Oscar, was first awarded by FIJET in 1970. This year, it was awarded for the 43rd time.

- On the eve of Croatia’s accession to the European Union, we are all aware of the far-reaching significance of this award for Croatia and our future tourism development. It commits us to continue preserving our heritage and tradition which in a way connects us with Europe, yet also represents a wealth of diversities making us in many ways unique, said President of FIJET Croatia, Mrs. Tina Eterović Čubrilo.
