This Saturday’s pine planting in Kuvi marked the beginning of the most numerous series of events for season preparation to date, organized by the Town Tourist Board. Representatives of the Town and hotel companies will plant the pines.
According to Tourist Board Director Darijo Činić, this year’s events, taking place within the Croatian Tourist Board’s campaign “I Love Croatia” and County Tourist board’s campaign “Let my Istria Shine”, are more numerous and richer than those in the previous years. Another novelty is the fact that the programs for guests and the locals were prepared by representatives of the tourist industry and the Town, in pursuit of their common goal to make Rovinj even more attractive, beautiful and pleasant to stay in.
The Tourist Board has prepared a whole set of most diverse events – from environmental and cultural ones to those dealing with enology and gastronomy. Among other things, we will organize lectures on the subject of wine serving, table culture, olive oil and cheese, an asparagus festival and Easter breakfast, as well as a specialized lecture entitled “Creativity in Gastronomy”. In addition, we will distribute around three thousand flower seedlings and around three hundred sage seedlings. The Green Istria will hold an interesting lecture on the subject of the Kyoto Protocol and the Croatian energy strategy, while the “Rovinj Flower Story” and “Art and Creation”, which we will co-organize with Maistra and the Town, will probably attract particular interest. As for the environmental events, the divers will lead the town harbor cleaning campaign this year, the Meduza Sport & Fishing Association will improve the Island of Figarola, while the hunters will clean the Island of Sveti Ivan na Pučini and prepare it for the season, announced Činić.
The program also includes music events, with a concert by the Batana folk group as early as Easter, and Toni Cetinski’s performance on Trg maršala Tita in late April.
This year, the Tourist Board once again organized forestation of the town’s green areas in cooperation with representatives of the Town, Maistra, the Municipal Service, and the Public Fire Brigade.
After last year’s pine planting on Zlatni rt, this year the forestation took place in the coastal part of Kuvi.
Dario Činić, Director of the Tourist Board, Mayor Giovanni Sponza, Davorin Flego, President of the Rovinj Town Council, Renco Miletić, Director of Maistra, Edi Mendica, commander of the Rovinj Public Fire Brigade, Ive Silvano, Director of Jadran-trgovina and some town chiefs and firemen planted the young pine trees, with agronomist Barbara Matošević Talajić providing expert assistance.
"We will only be able to make Rovinj even more attractive and beautiful for arrival of our guests if we join our forces and consider the fact that, beside attractive buildings and facilities, landscaping is one of the important factors when making a final choice of a destination – in addition, this will also make the town cleaner and neater for us ", said Dario Činić.
He also pointed out that this symbolic planting of pines was merely an introduction into numerous upcoming environmental events, including two special ones as part of the tradition – distribution of sage and flower seedlings to the townspeople.
The pine planting in Kuvi also announced forestation of the area that should take place in the autumn. According to Ms. Matošević Talajić, around a hundred more young and healthy shoots will be planted in the area.
