On 19th of July 2001, in Rovinj, the instrumental ensemble called The Cremona Solists were guests in the animating sacral setting of the atrium of Franciscan monastery. Held together most of all with friendly feelings, the ensemble is formed of excellent musicians with worldwide reputation. Their numerous visitings at festivals in the USA, Asia and large European cities such as Salzburg, Paris, Madrid, Istanbul and many others confirm their good reputation. After filling the pews of atrium to almost last seat, the international audience didn't have to wait long till the concert began.
Under the direction of Marco Fracassi, the creator and conductor of that serious musical band, the concert began with the dance »Il Policio« by T. Merulo, a mediaeval Italian author, which showed the characteristic orientation of the band towards renaissance and baroque performances they are widely known by.
During the performance, faultlessness of the old-handed skilled musicians was felt in each musical variation and note which had by its suggestive tone of exotic musical ancient times the effect of therapy and meditation on the audience. The ornamental look of the beautiful sonorous atrium helped to bring about meditative atmosphere. Due to the number of respectable chamberlain’s and musical performances held there, the atrium has gained a cultural status in the Rovinj cultural summer.
The concert went on in the same great style. Two Italian renaissance-loving vedettas, N. Corradini and G. Tartini were playing their pieces of music and at the end, for real classical lovers the concert finished with »Sonata A-major / La maggiore« op. 1 N 9; »Sonata d-minor / Re minore« op. 1 N 12 « »Folia« by famous A. Vivaldi.
The Cremona Solists, Silvano Minella (violin); Antonio De Lorenzi (violin); Marco Perini (cello); Marco Fracassi (harpsichord) are playing on instruments of old made with baroque strings.
Finally, we single out a part of a prologue on visiting the Cremona Solists. »The interest for performing of the repertoires which have been performed little or not at all gave a strong tendency to this ensemble's choice of music. Besides having in their repertoire music by famous composers, the ensemble is giving priority to performing of less known pieces of music. In many cases we are talking about the first performing in modern days.«
