On August 10, 2013 the town of Rovinj will host an event called the Night of St. Lawrence for the seventh consecutive year, in order to enrich the tourism offer and introduce new attractive elements in the promotion of Rovinj as a romantic destination in accordance with the slogan "a romantic Mediterranean".
Namely, that night, the meteor shower known as "the tears of St. Lawrence" can be clearly seen with the naked eye under dark skies. For this occasion, street lights on the waterfront are replaced by torches to emphasize the romantic atmosphere. Many terraces are lit by flickering candle lights and romantic music completes the atmosphere. Subdued lighting effects illuminating the main square add to the charm of this romantic town.
The program begins with a promenade and a dance group performing dressed as court ladies under the flickering torchlight, accompanied by musicians, thus signifying the whole event. Romantic music, operatic arias, evergreens and klapa music (a cappella) play from the various stages set around the town.

An evening for the soul and for romantics
For the seventh year in a row, members of the Town of Rovinj’s Tourism Board have organized a manifestation under the name of “The Night of Saint Lawrence.” On this evening, all of the Town’s streetlights are turned off and its boardwalk and picturesque squares are lit by merely the light of torches and the flames of candles. This romantic evening is also complemented by light effects, which create a fairytale-like world with their alternating colours and shapes along the facades of the town’s buildings.
This year, the music, which was played on seven separate stages, also had a romantic tone. Eleven performers, from duos to choirs and groups, gave it their all this year, and with their rich repertoire and voices celebrated love on this evening when even the stars above were on our side.
The Davor and Gracijan Terzic duo performed at the Shipyard Square, and with their performance of evergreens even had the audience signing. There was a special atmosphere on the Aldo Rismondo Shore, where the great Eligio and Boris duo entertained and encouraged the audience to dance until late in the evening. At the Pignaton Square, the stars of the evening were the acoustic trio “Summertime.” At the Riviera Square, there was also a special atmosphere, where the Trio Stand By, the band Dream Project and the mixed choir “Antonio Gandusio” alternated with their great music and good vibes. At the town’s main point, Marshal Tito Square, The Velvet Quartet and the Ivo Gamulin & Pastora Soler duet played. It is superfluous to write anything about the latter. It is enough to merely say that Gamulin is one of Croatia’s best bel canto singers and Pastora Soler is an artist whom musical connoisseurs have pegged as the most perfect voice of the Spanish music scene. Aside from the squares, romantic music could also be heard and experienced at two other attractive locations: the plateau in front of St. Francis Church, where members of the Opera b.b. performed the program titled “A Meeting with Verdi,” in which opera singers and musicians Ronald Braus, Lidija Horvat Dunjko, Blanka Tkalcic, Zvonimir Ivanovic, Vesna Ivanovic Ocvirk and actress Mila Elegovic performed. The natural scene of the Baluota Town Beach offered a special atmosphere where Franko Krajcar and Indivia performed in their recognizable ethno style, accompanied by the light of torches and the sound of the waves.
