Pe' Na Terra (Portugal)
The band Pe' Na Terra produces their sound from a unique combination of instruments such as the bagpipe, flute, accordion, traditional percussion, electric guitar, drums and bass instruments. The band gathers to honor the Portuguese musical tradition with a touch of modernity. This unique group that turns every concert into a party, every song in the ritual rhythm, has become widely accepted not only in their country but also in Europe. Pe' Na Terra formed in 2005, and their music, from the very beginning, is characterized by strong focus on research, data collection and interpretation of traditional Portuguese themes, shaping them into the original compositions. On their first major tour in 2006 they toured the whole of Portugal and Spain. They recorded their first album in 2008 and thus paid a tribute to the great Portuguese songwriter José Afonso, and gained extraordinary acceptance from the public.

Gustafi (Croatia)
The band was formed in 1990, and has recorded 10 albums and played more than 1,100 live concerts. The critic, Sven Semenčić, wrote, "At the same time Gustafi represent a typical expression of Croatian music and the most complete product of world music". The concerts of this band, which can be defined as the best Croatian band in recent years, are based on the seemingly impossible, but very effective musical combinations.

7Luas.Cordas Orkestra (Mediterranean – Capo Verde)
This original production involves six prestigious artists from the most diverse musical cultures rooted in the countries of the Sete Sois Sete Luas network: a mandolin player Luís Peixoto and a drummer André Sousa Machado from Portugal, mandolin player from Puglia, Mimmo Epifani, singer Dany Fonseca from the Cape Verde Islands, guitarist Hernani Almeida from the islands of Santiago and São Vicente, and a Moroccan singer Sakina Al Azami. The repertoire of the orchestra includes new arrangements of traditional songs, original compositions and new arrangements of themes from different countries from which the musicians originate. It is an enchanting journey and intercultural dialogue created in a unique and extraordinary blend of artists.

Bevano Est (Italy)
Bevano Est is a group formed in 1991, inspired by the rich musical tradition of Romagna. Through acoustic and traditional instruments such as the diatonic accordion, violin, guitar, clarinet and the percussions, the group offers a fusion of sounds, rhythms and melodies, catalyzed in the simple desire to communicate in the original, direct and identifiable way that goes beyond the ordinary. In their music there is no need for stylistic affiliation but the emphasis is on pride confirming aware, curious and pleasant individuality. They have composed numerous film scores and worked for Italian directors Giuseppe Bertolucci and Ermanno Olmi. They also intensively cooperate with the theatre by performing live concerts throughout the year.

THE 23RD EDITION OF SETE SÓIS SETE LUAS – THE FESTIVAL OF MEDITERRANEAN FOLK MUSIC

Excellent performers wow audience

For the seventh year in a row, Rovinj is the host of the Sete Sóis Sete Luas Festival – the Festival of Mediterranean Folk Music, thanks to the Tourist Board of the Town of Rovinj, the Town of Rovinj, the Istria County, and Edi Maružin of the band Gustafi.

The Festival is promoted by the Culture Network in thirty three towns and eleven countries of the Mediterranean and in the Portuguese speaking area – Brazil, Cabo Verde, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Morocco, Portugal, Spain and Slovenia, and ever since the year 2008 in Croatia and Rovinj as well. The Festival sets the stage for folk music, street theatre and visual arts projects, and draws big names of the Mediterranean culture.

The first evening of Sete Sóis Sete Luas was dominated by the sounds of Portugal and the band Pé Na Terra, while Croatia was represented by the band Gustafi. With the help of bagpipes, flutes, accordions, traditional percussion instruments, electric guitars, drums and bass guitars, the energetic and outgoing members of Pé Na Terra paid homage to Portuguese traditional music and made the large audience dance, earning a rousing applause. The unique band has succeeded in their intent to turn their performance into a celebration, and every song into a rhythm and a ritual into which the audience was drawn.

The audience enjoyed the concert by the band Gustafi who had, as usual, not given anyone the chance to catch their breath. Everybody danced and sang... let’s just say it was a true “Gustafi” experience. The public was also treated to a performance by the band’s guest, the jazz saxophone player Luis Banilla, one of the best saxophonists in the world, who had accepted Maružin’s friendly invitation to join the “jam in Rovinj”.

The second evening of the festival brought two more excellent bands to the stage on the Maršal Tito Square– Bevano Est from Italy and 7Luas Cordas Orkestra, composed of musicians from six Mediterranean countries and Cabo Verde. The band Bevano Est is inspired by the rich musical tradition of Romagna. With acoustic and traditional instruments, such as the diatonic accordion, violin, guitar, clarinet and drums, the band offers a fusion of sounds, rhythms and melodies, blending into an uncomplicated desire to communicate in an original, direct and recognizable way which transcends the boundaries of the ordinary. On the other hand, the 7Luas Cordas Orkestra, composed of artists from diverse musical cultures, has a musical repertoire which combines traditional songs with original compositions and new arrangements of themes from the country of every musician. By creating music they also create intercultural dialogue.

The festival also included the presentation of olive oil and wine, and other agricultural products of the Rovinj association Agrorovinj, while culinary delights were provided by Maistra.
