A Romantic Night with the Tears of St. Lawrence Meteor Shower

On the Night of St. Lawrence, when the falling stars are most numerous and most clearly visible in the sky, the town of Rovinj was the most romantic destination in the Mediterranean. For the sixth consecutive year, the workers of the Tourist Board turned this special night of the year into a fairy tale filled with good vibrations, music and flickering candles. Love and romance are celebrated on this special night. The night street lamps are switched off and torches are lit.

The tables of the restaurants are embellished with candlelight and on this very night Rovinj truly becomes a town to visit and enjoy. The night of romance was kicked off once more by a dance performance by the members of the Roxanne dance ensemble who promenaded through the streets and squares of Rovinj in romantic gowns of court ladies with torches in their hands accompanied by musicians. During their promenade, they toured seven attractive town spots with an equal number of stages on which numerous performers took turns performing. Although characterized by different music expressions and affinities, the only imperative for all of them was to show through music, which knows no boundaries, that love and affection are what moves us all.

Thanks to a large number of stages and performers who performed every type of music, from evergreen songs to opera arias, from a cappella to instrumental performances, there was something for everyone. Marko Tolja and Natali Dizdar performed on the main stage at the Marshall Tito Square, while the Shipyard Square was reserved for the affirmed local duo, Davor and Gracijan Terzić. The Aldo Rismond Pier breathed in the rhythm of Tasha feat. The Summertime Acoustic Duo and the Pignaton Square in the rhythm of the melodies performed for the numerous visitors by the Eligio and Boris duo. The Riviera Square offered yet another special experience. The members of the Dream Project band and the Rovinj mixed a cappella vocal ensemble contributed to the atmosphere, the climax being the performance by Kristian Terzić & Marko Ramljak. For those craving something completely different, opera artists baritone Ronald Braus and soprano Lidija Horvat Dunjko gave their performance by the Church of St. Francis accompanied by Darijan Ivezić on the piano. On the same stage, the Antonio Gandusio Choir gave its performance thrilling the numerous fans of choir singing, while the performance by legendary singer Anica Zubović truly earned ovations from the audience. The Baluota Beach, which draws visitors’ attention by its own attractiveness and position, was once again specially decorated. In addition to being illuminated by torches set up on cliffs, the sea bottom was illuminated as well, which gave the entire scene an additional charm emphasized even more by the music of the Stand By trio. Rovinj winemakers from the Vitis Cooperative and oilmakers from Rubinum made sure that great music and the candlelit atmosphere were not the only things offered during the event, while the experienced Maistra workers provided food and beverages. Once again, the Night of St. Lawrence, organized by the Tourist Board of the Town of Rovinj, showed that, next to that greatest and most beautiful Rovinj Night, this too is a night worthy of being entered in the calendar of the most important and most interesting summer events in the Adriatic.
