The traditional regatta of boats with latin sail will be held for the 8th consecutive time. Every year lugger racing in Rovinj waters attracts a greater turnout and competitors arrive from all over Croatia, Italy, Slovenia.
The race course will be set between Veliki mol, Sv. Križ and the island of Sv. Katarina. The start is scheduled for 11:00 am and the Awards Ceremony will begin at 3:30 pm at the Spacio Matika

The Traditional Regatta Started with a Record Number of Participants
A record number of forty boats with lug and lateen sails, from Slovenia, Italy and Croatia, started at the eighth edition of the Regatta. Considered one of the most attractive town events, the Regatta showcases traditional wooden boats such as guca, gajeta, pasara, stela, cuttera,cataboata, topa, bragagna and batana.
Their colorful sails took over the blue surface of the Rovinj waters and gave the opportunity to numerous spectators who followed the regatta from the coast or on “official” boats to record and immortalize the fantastic symbiosis of man and nature. A strong jugo, a south-easterly wind, accompanied the regatta and even overturned one of the batanas, contributing to the visual appealof the photos taken on that day.
The Regatta started in the Lone cove, from which the boats had to sail with a side wind to the island Banjol. After the first turn around the buoy, the boats took the same route and with the help of jugo reached the east coast of the island Sv. Katarina. The ancient boats rounded, sailed to leeward, lost the wind near the old town and then showed in full glory the art of the “ancient sea wolves”.
The Regatta of traditional boats with tug and lateen sails started at the same time the BatanaEcomuseum “Kuća o batani” was founded. It was organized by the Ecomuseum, the Association “Kuća o batani” and the Yacht Club Maestral in cooperation with the Rovinj Tourist Board. The Regatta was sponsored by the town of Rovinj, the Istria Tourist Board, ACI Marina Rovinj and the restaurant Maestral.
