The fourth consecutive baroque music festival Ba-Ro-Mus in Rovinj, conducted by music professor Domagoj Terzić, was formally opened by the performance of composer and guitarist Renato Rožić. With his Rozato Rozic Consort ensemble comprising violinists Fiona Stevens and Sara Hubrich, Yamato Hasumi on the lute and double bassist Dragan Trajkovski, he presented himself by a concert evening entitled „Baroque Goes Too...“, at which they performed works of old masters – Johann Sebastian Bach and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

The special feature of this well visited musical evening was reflected in the performing practice of the musicians who used the opportunity to improvise. As it happens, improvisation was an important component both in the creation and in performance of the former baroque composers’ works. Renato Rozic Consort base their creation on a combination of styles, where jazz tradition is excellently supplemented by the sounds of baroque and classicism.

This year’s guiding idea followed by the Association for Promotion of Art and Culture – European Center for Culture, engaging in promotion and validation of musical reproduction of renaissance and baroque, was: Baroque: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow. The very slogan indicates the concept of this festival, finding its place this summer season somewhere between creation, reproduction, tradition, improvisation, interpretation and research into the relations between the past, present and future.

As Ba-Ro-Mus continues, the audience will have the chance to hear one of the best young cellists, Stjepan Hauser, playing „Hommage a Johann Sebastian Bach“, double bassist Yuan –Chuan-Pan playing „Rovinjski nokturno“, Gambe di legno Consort/Bandantica la Pifarescha playing „La Campagnia de'cantori di Francesco Spongia“, Federico Bonetti Amendola playing „Cissa-zvuci istarske Atlantide“, harpist Mara Galassi playing „Microcosm Concert“, and the last in this year’s series of concerts – the Baroque ‘n’ Jazz project by Ensemble Laus Concentus & Musicarte.
Admission to all concerts held at the Franciscan Monastery and beginning at 9 p.m. is free of charge.
