Three million overnights realized 19 days earlier compared to the previous year
For the second time in a row, Rovinj has managed to reach the number of 3 million overnights, this year even 19 days earlier compared to the previous year. This magical number was reached on September 18 (October 7 last year), making the town of St. Euphemy the leading Croatian tourist destination in terms of the number of realized overnights for the second time in a row.
According to Mrs. Odete Sapač, Director of the Tourist Board of the Town of Rovinj, approximately 105 thousand or 4% more overnights were realized compared to the same period last year. According to the structure of overnights by national citizenship, the visitors from Germany were most numerous (33%), followed by the Austrians and the Dutch who pushed the Italians out of third place with a 7 percent increase. As pointed out by Mrs. Sapač, the number of tourists from Slovenia, Russia and Great Britain increased as well. Nautical tourism figures also grew and an increase was also recorded in the number of arrivals to the ACI Marina and arrivals of tourists from the sea, mega yachts and cruisers.
- Three factors were key to achieving such a successful tourism turnover: our unique destination, which we have managed to preserve with all its historical, cultural and natural values; new and continuous investments in the quality of amenities and tourism products; and, last but not least important, the kindness of our people, all citizens and tourism workers - stressed the Director of the Tourist Board of the Town of Rovinj who, in spite of the high figures already achieved, still believes that the season is not over yet .
- The season is not over yet and I expect that by the end of the year the figure will grow to 3.15 million overnights. I also believe that the next tourist season will be as successful as, if not even more successful than this, all things considered, we could say the best season ever, stressed Odete Sapač.
Giovanni Sponza, President of the Tourist Board and Mayor of the town of Rovinj used this festive occasion to thank all citizens of Rovinj without whom it would not have been possible to achieve such excellent results.
- The citizens of Rovinj and all those involved in some way in the tourism offer of the town have shown that our town lives tourism. This year’s success was once again a result of cooperation between the public and the private sector. Their efforts and our natural cultural values, in combination with responsible area management and environmental protection, have ensured our success and helped us appear as a tourist attraction in various world media. We are on the right track and I am convinced that we will be just as successful next year, stressed Giovanni Sponza.
The festive celebration marking the three-millionth overnight ended with the cutting and distribution of slices of a large celebration cake and a gigantic, 70 meter long apple strudel. The creators of both these sweet delicacies, distributed to the citizens of Rovinj and their still numerous guests in only half an hour, were the students of the Eugen Kumičić Vocational School from Rovinj and their teachers. The Kristijan Terzić Trio was responsible for ensuring music entertainment and good atmosphere at the terrace of the Adriatic Hotel where the festive banquet took place.
