On the second evening of the sixth in succession Kultfest, nine musicians of Havana’s “Sierra Maestra” presented themselves to the Rovinj’s audience.

Cuban music stars that have performed from late 70s came to Rovinj in their traditional setting – the tres, guitar, trumpet, bongos, guiro and vocals. They performed mostly the songs from their latest album titled “Son – soul of nation”, on which they promoted son – original music from that Caribbean island from which salsa origins, too.

The ensemble “Sierra Maestra” called after the mountain massive in the eastern part of Cube, where the musical expression son origins from, was founded by Juan d’Marcos Gonzales. He once said his famous sentence that Cubans “had to use their cultural heritage to create the sound of the future”. Whether they created the sound of the future or not the time would show, but it is sure fact that Cuban sound today, whether it is salsa or son, reigns on ethno- and world music scene. Two-hour long concert did not leave anybody indifferent. The audience was thrilled to fast, energetic rhythms soon after the first song and started to dance in front of the stage turning the place into the big dancing hall.

Prior to the concert of these energetic musicians, the local ensemble “Livio Morosin Band” gave their performance. Istrian musicians showed this time as many times before that they belong among top world ethno musicians: the latest Morosin’s hit “This morning I woke up early” could end on high position on top lists of world music scene.
