For the first time, thanks to employees of the town Tourist Association, Rovinj is one of the hosts of the International Festival of Mediterranean Folk Music named “Sete Sois Sete Luas” (Seven Suns Seven Moons). It is a festival which saw this year its 16th edition which is also promoted via Cultural network in as many as 30 towns and nine countries - Capo Verde, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Morocco, Portugal, Spain and Croatia. The Festival is supported also by the European Union through projects such as Kaleidoscope, Culture 2000, Interreg IIIB Medocc, because of its European dimension and high cultural value. The three-day long and for the first time in Croatia, it was opened with an inspirational act of the Sicilian band Lautari that attracted most spectators at the central square of the town of Rovinj.

The Sicilian band has five members. Lautari were founded in 1987 in Catania and have become worldwide recognized with their performances of the so-called world music. Their style is interesting mostly because of the fact that they researched and then modernized the typical music tradition of the south of Italy. They presented themselves to the Rovinj public with compositions set to music by Sicilian poets. Their sound is characteristic because they perform on typical Mediterranean instruments - mandolins, mandolas and fifes, along other instruments used in other parts of Italy and other countries in the world. So, the special treat for all music fans was their interpretation of the Sicilian music colored by the Celtic harp, African percussions and Calabrian guitar.

Also, one must commend the act of the local supporting band „Štrace“ which warmed up and brought into mood the public with their performances of the Buzeština music tradition. Besides the Sicilian music, Sicilian delicacies were offered on Maistro’s plates, like entrees such as aubergine salad, anchovy spread and frutti di mare risotto while the main dish was the cheese, sausage, mortadela, tomato and egg filled veal roll. The finishing touch was the dessert - cannoli, filled with riccola and cinnamon. Teran Pilata, merlot Cabole, cabernet Agrolagune and malmsey Vivode were served with these delicacies.

Besides Sicilian, Istrian specialties were also served. The inn “Ćuk” offered the home-made prosciutto, cheese and wine, “Žigante” offered truffles, Association of producers of Istrian prosciutto offered its products and the Rovinj members of “Agrorovinj” offered from their stand fresh slices of watermelon and melon.

The second night of the international festival „Sete Sois Sete Luas“, was in the sign of the French musicians, members of the band “Les Boukakes“. The temperamental and impressive musicians presented more than successfully their music at the central town square – the mixture of Arabian and Andalusian melodies with rhythms of reggae, funk and rock and roll. The French band thrilled the pubic with their forceful guitar riffs and proved why they have been performing for years now at the most important festivals in Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Morocco and Qatar. They also performed together with the bands like Taraf de Haidouks and The Wailers as well as with the planet wide popular Manu Chao.

The second festival night was opened on behalf of the country and host town by the quintet Krajner from Roč. Their act also encountered a big interest from the public as did the presentation of the delicacies characteristic for the region of the band „Les Boukakes“. The menus included stewed savory mussels, anchovy salad and the French specialty bouillablaise and quiche Lorraine. The local producers offered Istrian delicacies – prosciutto, truffles and fruit. Extraordinary music-gourmet night, connecting different worlds, climates, people, customs and menus was organized by the town Tourist Association, Istarska County and the town of Rovinj.

„Luar na Lubre“, one of the most important bands from the Spain province Galicia, was a guest at the festival „Sete Sois Sete Luas“ in Rovinj. The Town Tourist Association managed, for the first time ever, to have a Croatian town as the host of this attractive Mediterranean festival which gathers nine participating countries – from Israel and Morocco to Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece, France all to way to Capo Verde. From this year, Croatia is a part of this group.

The Galician ensemble was founded in 1986 and most credit for their fame goes to the famous Irish musician Mike Oldfield, they toured the world with. The thing that connects these big and popular musicians is their strong belief that music is one of the key factors for the affirmation of the feeling of cultural belonging. Their music is at the same time gentle and temperamental. They sing about everyday life, love, their Galicia, people, passing of time, everything that surrounds us. From elegy melodies they go on to strong rhythms. Their music clearly manifest bagpipes, violins, flutes, guitars and the drum with a female vocal being especially nice and impressive.

Also, on the third night, the festival visitors could enjoy not only in the music but also in the Spanish delicacies. This time Maistro’s chefs prepared, by the Galician recipes, empadas with baby beef, suspiros de rioja, mussels with saffron and the festival wines coming from the countries participating at the „Sete Sois Sete Luas“ were sampled.
