Triumph of the good and quality photographs

The fifth Rovinj festival of photography – Photodays was concluded with the award ceremony honouring the most successful photographers. Choosing the best out of a total of 8500 entries, competing in nine categories from 450 authors, was not an easy task for the jury of international experts.

In the category of portraits, the most successful was Dalibor Talajić from Rovinj with a series of photographs titled "Homeless people in Toronto," while Hassan Abdelghani from Pula triumphed among the artistic concepts with his photos titled "From a distance". In the category “Publications”, the award went to Sara Perović from Pula and her work "a Tree", while Isabella Bubola from Ližnjan was the most successful in the category “Art nude/Body” with a series of photographs titled "Concept".

The first place in the category “Architecture” was awarded to Mira Stanić from Rijeka, and the first place “Landscape” winner was Borko Vukosav from Zagreb, while duo - Roman Decker and Dejan Kutić –won first place Fashion Photography award. Also, the categories “Applied” and “Documentary photography” gave rise to their laureates. The Best Applied Photography award went to Vjekoslav Skledar from Zagreb and his fellow citizen Mario Topić was the best in the category “Documentary photography”.

Prize money in the amount of HRK 5000 and a sculpture “Kadar” was awarded to each winner. However, perhaps the greatest award is that their works will become part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Arts and Crafts in Zagreb.

Photodays Lifetime Achievement Award was given to the prominent photographer, Mladen Tudor, who has had a long and fruitful career as a newspaper reporter, while special recognitions for Lifetime Achievement and Creativity went to Abdullah Seferović from Zadar and Virgilio Giuricin from Rovinj. By presenting these awards Photodays festival expressed its gratitude to these Croatian giants of photographic art.

One stage of Croatian creative & photo challenge was held during Photodays. Photographers could take retro photos at the Baluota beach where fisherman was mending his nets. Street Style photographs were shot in Carera Street with a woman wearing traditional Rovinj dress as the main motive. Paparazzi-style photos were taken at the town market, and Close-up photos in Svetog Križa Street. A special theme titled “Lifelong education” was discussed in a classroom under the open sky in Bregovita Street. Tourist photos were shot at the Town gate and panoramic photos at Obala Alda Rismonda and in Valdibora. In front of hotel Adriatic photographers could take advertising photos of the latest Audi, and along the way, from checkpoint to checkpoint, photos of free themes. Photographs taken at the photo challenge will be seen in numerous exhibitions across the country.

Exhibitions in the open were particularly attractive. The town waterfront hosted a presentation of works by photo agencies Cropix and Pixell, and ReFoto magazine from Belgrade. The exhibition of photos of the Croatian sea and seabed as part of the project Friends of the Sea has continued again this year under the title “Mediterranean essays” and brings together the work of about twenty photographers.
