A great performance by multi-talented musicians from Morocco, Israel, Andalusia, Portugal and Italy ended the second edition of the International Mediterranean Folk Music Festival held in Rovinj. Conducted by the baton of the instrumentalist Stefano Saletti, the musicians performing under the name of the 7Sois Orchestra showed all splendour and beauty of the music found in different areas of the Mediterranean and the countries of the Portuguese language - Brazil, Cape Verde, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Morocco, Portugal, Spain and Italy.
The repertoire of the 7Sois Orchestra, composed of Margarida Guerreiro, a great vocalist from Portugal, Jamal Ouassini, violinist from Morocco, Eyal Sela, a clarinettist and flautist from Israel, Miguel Angel Ramos, flamenco guitarist from Andalusia, Mario Rivera, bassist from Sicily and Massimo Custar, drummer from Calabria, included traditional tunes from the countries the musicians come from. All of them, even though being genuine and indigenous songs, were sheathed in new arrangements and coloured by great musical chromatics of the singular singer Margarida Guerreiro. Thus, the audience heard a musical journey, from Portuguese fado, through Spanish Bulerios, the rhythms of southern Italy, Arab-Andalusian music, all the way to Sephardic themes.
The second International Festival Sete Sois Sete Luas in Rovinj was wrapped up by ovations by the audience, confirming the words of the Croatian writer and intellectual Predrag Matijević, who says: “There is no single Mediterranean culture: there are a lot of them in the heart of a single Mediterranean.” That the audience should get to know the musical heart of the Mediterranean was once again cared by the County of Istarska, the Town of Rovinj and its Tourist Board and Edi Maružin, who – supported by the central team of the Sete Sois Sete Luas, organised this true musical treat and a cultural event in the town of St Euphemia.
