St. Lawrence's Night
###
During the night from the 12th to 13th of August, thanks to employees of the Town Tourist Board, Rovinj was the most romantic destination in the Adriatic. That is, for the fifth year in a row the tourist office organised St Lawrence Night, celebrating
St. Lawrence's Night - a culture & entertainment event with an emphasis on the romantic spirit of Rovinj provided by special lighting and a series of romantic music concerts
###
On eight stages, distributed along all attractive quay points, on town squares and in cobbled streets, one could hear romantic music. The musical mood was greatly aided by the light of over a thousand candles that employees of the Tourist Board had distributed to cafes and restaurants the night before. The quay was lit by torches as well, while town facades were the background to the magical play of reflector beams in different colours.
The central stage, that attracted numerous people, hosted perhaps the best domestic voices - Ivo Gamulin and Radojka Šverko made audience sing with their performance and harmonious duets. Those a bit shy were given the opportunity for a gentle embrace and listening to music. The same stage featured Jadranka Stojaković from Sarajevo, who this time reminded the listeners of her evergreen hits and fantastic interpretations of the best folk songs. The square in front of the Franciscan monastery was an excellent stage for a rendition of Donizzeti’s “Rita”, performed by Ronald Braus, Lidija Horvat Dunjko, Nikša Radovanović and Dinko Bogdanić, accompanied by Mario Čopor on the piano. Slightly before “Rita”, the gathered crowd were able to enjoy the gentle sound of the piano as played by Aleksandra Golojka, who was joined on stage by the opera singer Oriana Vozila. The scene on the “Balota” beach, apart from the excellent music by Franko Krajcar and the “Indivija”, was quite memorable.
Balota, the beach most favoured by those from Rovinj, had a completely new and romantic look on this occasion, transformed by the light of candles and torches, but also Rovinj vessels swaying behind the stage. Great music, that went on into the wee hours, was also found on town squares. The Shipyard Square hosted the Duo Strings, while the Duo Denis & Nasco performed on the Pignaton. No less fun and romance was found on the sea front of Aldo Rismondo, where people enjoyed the sounds played by the Duo Eligio & Boris, i.e. on the Rivijera Square, where the Dream Project and the Duo Davor and Graciano Terzić performed. The buffs of local male a cappella singing were able to enjoy performances by the town chamber choir Rubino and the Rovinj klapa. An excellent intro to St Lawrence night was given by members of the dance troupe Roxanne, who performed along the town quay to the backdrop of torches, as well as in Monta and the Carera street. Wine refreshments were the task of celebrated wine makers of the cooperative Vitis. Oil producers from the cooperative to be established under the name of Rubinum were there as well.
This year’s St Lawrence night – numerous townsfolk and visitors to Rovinj agreed the morning after – raised the quality of events within the Town, while the manifestation of St Lawrence night itself was entered within the peak of most beautiful and interesting summer events in the Town of St Euphemia.
