Fishing evenings are proof that Rovinj folk are indeed aware of the beauty and attractiveness of the region they live in. During these manifestations, the gastronomic offer and the entertainment programme set along the town quay evoke memories of Rovin

Members of the cultural association “Stjepan Žiža” from Rovinjsko Selo were inviting guests and locals to the feast and the quay with their promenade performance from the Lokva Square all the way to the town patron St Euphemia, where they were greeted by members of the Marching Band and the cultural association “Marco Garbin”. The two stages during the entire evening saw changes of attractive performers – starting from the brilliant male vocal klapa choir Kumpanji from the island of Korčula, to the inspired ethno performer Bruno Krajcar and the Indivia group, all the way to the queen of the Istrian tune Vesna Nežić Ružić and the Magnolija duo.

The Fishing Tradition Evening could not avoid staging of the days of yore so the quay witnessed skilful weavers of glass bottles as well as craftsmen darning and spinning nets and fishing pots. The display of traditional fishing tools and their creation was enriched by the excellent gastronomic offer too. Producers from Rovinj and members of the Vitis cooperative were in charge of a quality drop of wine , while the cooperative Rubinum that is about to be established ensured olive oil tasting, while industrious chefs from Maistra and members of the association “The Batana House” prepared fish and seafood dishes. Moreover, for the very first time, the feast included the presentation of indigenous produce by members of the international project for the valuation of cultural tourism SeeNet. The project, apart from Rovinj, also includes Pazin, Varaždin, Brtonigla and Završje. Giovanni Trani also featured with the exhibits brought from his, for the time being the first and sole, private museum in Rovinj.

Still, the central event was the launching of a fishing vessel into the sea. In front of a large number of spectators and those curious, along clicks of cameras and the tune of “La viecia batana”, an anthem of Rovinja of a kind, sang by members of the folk group Batana and just about everybody gathered at the quay, the “Leonberg” batana was launched from the small pier. Its launching continues the tradition of constructing original Rovinj fishing vessels, wrenched from oblivion and brought back to life solely by the project of the association “The Batana House” and the generous support of the Tourist Board and the Town.
