Fifteen owners of lugsail or Latin sail boats coming from the neighboring Venice, the Island of Rab, the nearby Pula and Poreč, and, of course, Rovinj participated in the first international regatta organized in honor of these characteristic North Adriatic boats.

The said regatta, characterized by colorful sails with characteristic emblems of the families who made them, was organized by the House of Batana Eco Museum in cooperation with the Maestral Sailing Club and the Vele al Terzo Association from Venice.

With their intensively colored lugsails dominated by all shades of yellow, red, blue and orange, the boats made the Rovinj aquatorium look joyful, while creating an exceptionally beautiful experience for the numerous tourists gathered at the big pier and along the old-city-center walkway, who came to see them off and take pictures of them.

The boat owners and skippers had to cross the distance of seven miles on the route from the coast at Sveti Križ in direction of the Katarina Island along the Rovinj marina to the Island of Banjol. The Paduan Sisa won the regatta reaching the finish line in 1 hour 48 minutes and 10 seconds. The second place went to the crew of Astemio, the third to the crew of Paron Giacomo, while the Rovinj batana Fiamita, navigated by Maurizio Venier and Sergio Sponza, came in ninth.

The first international lugsail and Latin sail boat regatta was organized under the auspices of the City of Rovinj, whereas the main sponsors of the regatta were the Maistra Tourist Agency and the Tourist Association of Rovinj.
