During the second Sunday of August, the 44th visual arts exhibition under the open sky – Grisija – was held in the street associated with painting in Rovinj most – this being by far the greatest and most beautiful exhibition in all of the Mediterranean. This year, this exceptionally attractive one-day cultural event, organised with much enthusiasm year in and year out by employees of the Rovinj Heritage Museum, attracted as many as 265 authors, exceeding the last year’s quota by 32. There were 65 artists with proper degrees, and new exhibitors were noticeably on the rise as well – students and self-taught painters. The multitude of different themes, colours, forms, creative visions and creations made it quite difficult for the judging panel, composed of Iva Köbler, Ivana Mance and Irena Bekić, each one a visual arts critic from Zagreb.
Nevertheless, having thoroughly inspected and studied the exhibits, the judgement was to award the first prize – the one coming from the Town of Rovinj (HRK 7,500 and a prosciutto) to the famous conceptual artist from Zagreb, Vlado Martek, and the second (HRK 5,000 and goat’s cheese) to Nevija Pizzul from Opatija. The Heritage Museum also purchased the work of Martina Vojnić from Pula for HRK 4,500, awarding the prize for applied arts to Nina Šparanda from Pazin as well.
Furthermore, five additional purchases in the amount of HRK 4,500 were made. The awards from the Tourist Board went to Mirjana Mutić, Studija Emmemme Nikola Ražov, Arh studija Vlasta Delimar, Maistre Vladimir Dodig Trokut and Esela Davor Rapaić. Additional three commendations were given – these going to Duilio Trošt, Goran Čurković Lazi and Desay Kim.
The whole painting happening had a musical backdrop from the early morning. The Rovinj Marching Band announced Grisija, while the very exhibition opening under the bare sky was embellished by the appearance of the folk group Batana, with their characteristic Mediterranean sound. The Mateotti Square featured a concert by the ensamble from the Croatian Music Youth of Grožnjan. A piece of news in this year’s edition of Grisija is that, following its closure, all awarded artwork was exhibited in the premises of the Heritage Museum.
