Attractive Basques delighted the audience

This July Rovinj is again for the fifth year in a row one of the hosts of the traditional three-day Mediterranean Folk Music Festival Sete Sóis Sete Luas (Seven Suns Seven Moons). The Festival that is promoted via the Network for Culture in as many as in about thirty towns and ten different countries of the Mediterranean and Portuguese-speaking countries - Brazil, Cape Verde, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Morocco, Portugal and Spain, has also “resided” in the picturesque Rovinj since 2008.
The first festival evening the audience really had an opportunity to enjoy an unusual mixture of drums and street theatre. Internationally most famous street theatre troop of the Basque country - Deabru Beltzak, on the main town square and its nearby streets caused numerous audience’s reactions and general delight with its attractive performance. Namely, the likable Basques, in addition to their music and attractive costumes, also used huge, sophisticated machines in their performance that, due to the fact that one fired and emitted smoke from them, also caused a whole series of various reactions and feelings in the audience – from curiosity to admiration and surprise. “Drums of fire” street performance of the extraordinary Basques brought the mystery and magic of ancient rituals to the streets of Rovinj that used to be performed in the Basque country during the old church holidays.
The second part of the first evening of Sete Sóis Sete Luas was also characterized by another Croatian première. The members of a band KamaFei from the Italian town of Salento appeared on the stage. KamaFei is actually a compound word that in the ancient language of Greeks means “flowing heath” or the heath that follows us in every season, emerges from the instruments alternating old and modern sounds, the same heath that one attempts to transfer at concerts and to which the audience responds at every performance, enchanted, as if it is a summer love ecstasy.
On this occasion also a group of young musicians performed a modern version of the ancient Salentinian traditional dance “pizzica pizzica” (literally: pinch, pinch), a dance that emerged as a ritual of liberation from a spider’s poison.
In addition to dance and music, Rovinj’s main Square should have been visited due to other delicacies as well. Domestic producers were also presented to the guests – oil and wine makers from Rovinj cooperative Rubinum, wine makers from Rovinj wine makers cooperative Vitis, and OPG Pršutarna Antolović, a ham-smoking plant. In addition, excellent wormwood wine Rovinj Pelinkovac, a herbal liqueur from Darna factory could also be tasted.
Co-organizers of this really special and unique three-day festival Sete Sóis Sete Luas in Croatia are the Tourist Board of the town Rovinj - Rovigno, Rovinj – Rovigno Town, Istrian County, Edi Maružin – the lead singer and member of the band Gustafi.
