After the Rovinj Tourist Board employees distributed two thousand perennials and spring flowers to their fellow citizens on the first Saturday in April, they traditionally distributed fruit trees on Saturday before Easter Monday. This year, they distributed as many as five hundred fruit trees – in addition to traditionally demanded fig and jujube, this time they also offered seedlings of raspberry, blueberry, gooseberry and blackberry, which, as expected, attracted great interest among the residents of Rovinj.
This campaign, seventh in a row, is organized every year by the town tourist board and is the only campaign of the kind on the Peninsula. This is also Rovinj’s contribution to the ‘’Let My Istria Shine’’ environmental campaign with the aim of making everything as neat, clean and prepared as possible for our dear guests in every corner of Istria and to make our environment and homes as beautiful and pleasant as possible throughout the year.
Something about the berry fruits we distributed:
Raspberry grows in bushes and maintains its wild forest character. It is rich in vitamins and minerals and requires places protected against strong wind and mild shade for successful development.
Blueberry is a branched bush-like perennial, sometimes thorny. It prefers sunny or semi-shady places protected against wind, and rich and moist soil. It blooms from April to June and the fruits are red or black berries appearing in mid-summer.
Gooseberry belongs to the saxifrage family and is a one-year plant. It requires plenty of moisture and it should be planted alternately with blueberry. Gooseberry has either red or yellow berries.
Blackberry inhabits edges of forests in sunny areas. It blooms in the early spring and the fruits appear in the late summer. It is s rich source of vitamins A and C, organic acids and sugars.
